Head Assistant Coach – High School Basketball

Mercer County Senior High is seeking a Head Assistant Coach to support the head coach in leading and developing a successful high school basketball program. This position plays a key role in player development, practice planning, game preparation, and maintaining a positive, disciplined team culture.

Responsibilities include:

• Assisting the head coach with practice planning, drills, and game strategy

• Leading skill development and position-specific instruction

• Supporting in-game coaching, scouting, and film breakdown

• Helping supervise student-athletes and ensure player safety

• Promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, accountability, and academic success

• Communicating effectively with coaching staff, players, and school personnel

• Assisting with equipment, scheduling, and program organization

• Upholding school, district, and athletic department policies

Qualifications:

• High school or higher-level basketball coaching or playing experience preferred

• Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals and strategy

• Ability to work effectively with high school student-athletes

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

• Completion of all required background checks
